Viva Las Elvis: The King of Vegas Weddings
An Interview with Top Elvis Impersonator Travis Allen
Few icons are as closely tied to the spirit of Las Vegas as Elvis Presley. His unmistakable voice, unforgettable style, and legendary performances helped cement Vegas as the entertainment capital of the world. Today, Elvis impersonators keep his legacy alive, making him as much a part of Vegas weddings as the glittering lights and whirlwind romance. We had the pleasure of sitting down with one of the city’s most renowned Elvis impersonators, Travis Allen, to discuss his journey, the magic of Elvis, and what it’s like to be the King every night.
“Believe it or not, my journey all started with an Elvis karaoke contest,” Travis says. “I was hooked after my very first one. I knew it was the right path for me after I won 1st place in my second contest. Then, just two weeks later, I got laid off from being an electrician—so I guess fate had a hand in it too!”
When asked what continues to captivate audiences about Elvis, especially in Las Vegas, Travis lights up. “Elvis had a voice, moves, and looks that were truly one of a kind. He performed so many times here in Las Vegas that he became a staple, and even now, the city just wouldn’t feel the same without him. His legacy is a huge part of what makes Vegas, well, Vegas.”
“It’s such an honor to perform nightly as the King of Rock and Roll,” he continues. “Elvis left an enormous footprint on the Vegas scene, and to be able to bring his music and style to life for people every day is something I’m very proud of.”
When it comes to his favorite performance, Travis doesn’t hesitate. “‘If I Can Dream’ is one of my favorites, mainly because of what it represents. It was written after the death of Martin Luther King, and it has such a powerful message.” But for high-energy moments, he adds, “‘Suspicious Minds’ always gets the crowd moving. That song never fails.”
Replicating Elvis’s distinct style takes more than a jumpsuit and a wig. “I have all my outfits custom-made to replicate his wardrobe. But more than the clothes, it’s about getting the small details right—his movements, his energy, and even the emotion in his performances. That’s what makes it feel authentic.”
Travis recalls one emotional performance where the impact of Elvis’s music truly hit home. “There have been so many great moments over the years, but one of the most memorable experiences for me is when I’ve been able to move people to tears. Some fans love Elvis so much that seeing a performance brings up deep emotions, and to be part of that connection is unforgettable.”
So, what’s his secret to channeling the King night after night? “Every time I perform, I think about how Elvis did it, how he performed each song. I try to get the movements and moments as close as I can to the real thing. It’s a blend of skill and emotion that keeps me connected to the role.”
To get into character, Travis doesn’t rely on rituals as much as mindset. “I always try to remember to have fun with it. That’s key. And as soon as I put the outfit and hair on, it puts me right in the mood to perform. It’s like a switch flips, and suddenly, I’m Elvis.”
Behind the scenes, he says, the hardest part is recreating the subtleties. “The King has been gone for so many years that people sometimes forget the little things he did—his mannerisms or facial expressions. It’s a challenge to bring those back to life.”
As we wrapped up our conversation, Travis had one message for Elvis fans everywhere. “There are so many impersonators out there who do an amazing job, but people shouldn’t forget to watch or listen to the original. Thanks to the audio and video documentation we have, the King of Rock and Roll is always just a click away. Let’s make sure we never forget the original creator of it all.”
